The first Dahlgren STEM Summer Academy took place in 2005 hosted at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division and has continued for nine consecutive years. In 2014, the Dahlgren Summer Academy was hosted by King George Middle School. Through the Office of Naval Research's (ONR) Virginia Demonstration Project (VDP), the Dahlgren Summer Academy invites students from Fredericksburg City Public Schools, King George Count Public Schools, Spotsylvania County Public Schools, Stafford County Public Schools, and DoDEA: Dahlgren School to participate in activities related to engineering, robotics, ballistics, rocketry, electronics, biology, chemistry, and environmental science.
